The Simpsons have predicted a surprising number of events around the world, and their latest prediction is about the augmented reality product that Apple’s new Vision Pro headset has brought. Now, shortly after the launch of this VR set, people everywhere can be seen wearing Apple’s new headsets, just like in the 2016 episode “Friends and Family”, where Springfield residents tried out similar tech.
‘The Simpsons’ Predicted Apple Vision
It didn’t take long for fans of The Simpsons to find the prophetic episode. In “Friends and Family,” the VR headsets were very similar to those of Apple’s Vision Pro. In the episode, Springfield residents were captivated by the allure of augmented reality headsets.
In this episode, the evil Mr. Burns hires the Simpsons to get into the role of his virtual family, while the bumbling Principal Skinner gets so into the tech that he becomes oblivious to his surroundings. Scenes like those in the episode echo some of the unsettling footage that has recently emerged on social media. In it, people using the Vision Pro in public are caught wearing the headset in a subway car or while walking down the streets.
VR Is Getting More Popular
The Vision Pro relies on eye and hand tracking for control, so there are no physical buttons or controllers. This leaves people making strange-looking hand gestures in public while wearing a headset. While the technology and its control approach are groundbreaking, it has become the reason why people put themselves in embarrassing situations.
Where this new approach to virtual and augmented reality will go is not yet clear, one thing is certain, though: The Simpsons is still the show that keeps making eerily accurate predictions of future events through its old and new episodes.
